with various instant savings options available to push the price well below this level.

In early 2008, Dell released the Inspiron 1525, a smaller and sleeker successor to the 1520. The company must have listened to the criticism it received for the Inspiron 1520 being what was considered a relatively large and bulky device, because the 1525 ended up being thinner, lighter, and had less surface area than its predecessor. This model is not currently available any more from Dell, but it remains a good option on the secondary market, as its speed and capacity levels have not yet become outdated.

Although Dell’s models are customizable with many different options presented during the ordering process, a typical configuration of this laptop includes a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo T7250 processor, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, Dell Wireless 802.11g mini wireless access card, cheap Christian Louboutin shoes, Dell wireless integrated mobile broadband mini card that supports Verizon and Sprint service. With these options, the price came in at around $1000, with various instant savings options available to push the price well below this level.

With a 15.4 inch WXGA glossy display, this laptop has a screen that compares well with other models of this class. Its 1280 x 800 pixel resolution (also available in 1440 x 900) officially makes it a wide screen display, which is currently en vogue among laptops. Although this resolution is average for notebook computers, only the serious gamer or professional photographer will yearn for more; it’s just fine for 95% of the computer users out there.

The 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor is more than enough horsepower for the mere mortal, and even some professionals such as computer programmers will find the processor speed more than adequate for daily tasks. The standard 2 gigabytes of RAM is a bit anemic for a programmer or gamer however, so an advanced user will want to spend the extra money to upgrade to 3 or 4 gigs. For everyone else, however, 2 GB should be plenty. Likewise with the 120 GB hard drive which should be more than enough, especially on a laptop.

A nice touch is the built-in mobile broadband card, which is a hybrid-electric concept vehicle, which supports Sprint or Verizon service. These days it’s starting to become more and more common to have a device like this that comes standard in a notebook as this method of connecting to the internet increases in popularity. But in early 2008 to have a WAN adapter in a sub-1000 dollar laptop was sort of a luxury. As for the included standard wireless LAN adapter, 802.11g is still adequate for today’s needs, as 802.11n is not yet in widespread use, but users will want to upgrade down the road once this standard is built out more.

Overall, this is a more than adequate laptop even today, especially given that it’s no longer available straight from the manufacturer. If one can find this machine in the secondary market, it can be an excellent buy, since even back when it was selling new for around $1000 it was a good value for the money.
